A piece of history
In La Genétouze, there have been for many years a little fair. High time for the village, indeed, but it was neither original nor very interesting as every village used to hold the same type of fair.
But, during the seventies, there happened to be a mayor that was also a bachelor. He had not found any women whose temper fitted him enough to share his days. Old bachelor, yes but bachelor forever, no ! That's why M. Favier, the aforementioned mayor, told the local assembly about his feelings. He thought of his situation as a way to bring a special feature to the traditional fair. And the idea of the Foire des Célibataires budded : Original, isn't it ?
This is, truly, how was launched the organization of the first Foire des Célibataires. It took place on the last week-end of August, 1977. And, as lovers who are so keen on reminding their first date, it has been same place, same day for a mere 30 years.
Between fields and forests, that's quite a gamble but the idea found a large echo across the neighbouring counties and will be, by the 2007' edition, 30 years old and counting. As the precedent, you may expect this edition to be warm, cordial and exceptional. As usual, one should add. It will be held on August the 24th, 25th and 26th.
Because it has encountered the sympathy and gained the loyalty of a large audience, the Foire des célibataires welcome you, bachelors, wedded, engaged, pacsed (the latest French exception) to enjoy yourself and have some fun. And, who knows, among those bunches of lonely hearts, you could be the next he and the next she on the list of the several nuptials and many engagements that have blossomed under the fair's climate.

Anthology
An eclectic programme awaits you : a surprising mix of visual performances, countryside shows, accordéon and sun, this summarizes quite well the tone of the week-end. It costs only a handful of euros to attend the show. You will not be disappointed. A detour by the latest editions will convince you.
First, there is always a bird's show.
The "La Genétouze Hall Of Fame" is quite remarkable. The fair has invited a lot of talents, amateurs or professionals. Many of them fell in love with this different fair and came back with pleasure and for the genetouzian audience.
Those last years, the audience has applaused and encouraged artists such as the singers Charlotte Julian and Dave, the accordéon's player Gilou, the multiple musician Rémy Bricka, the French famous cooker Maïté, the yogi Goudou... Needless to say that all of them performed nice and popular shows.

Because this fair is yours, everything is made to give you the best. You are awaited on the fair and you cannot miss the place that is dedicated to your comfort. There, take a piece of paper and give us some information about you in order to ease the meetings. Then choose, man or woman, the one who suits you the best according to the information written on the papers. |

A little ball, more discret, besides the main attractions, is held on sunday afternoon. You'll find there bachelors, for the bulk part. But anyone looking for a place to dance can come. Then, well, needless to say anything about that... Just let things going. |
La Canourgue
It would be quite selfish of us not to say a word about the other Foire des Célibataires. In France's heartland, the Lozère, between the Aubrac and the Montagne Noire ("Black Mountain"), La Canourgue invites you to celebrate the coming spring and to meet some nice people in this lovely rcky village.
