La Genétouze

It is one of the 14 municipalities of the most "meridional" county of Charente-Maritime : Montguyon's county .

The municipality got its name from two widespread vegetal of the county, "genet" (approximate meaning : jennet) and "étouze". Life, sweet life, under its huge maritime pines and its little church (registered as artistic heritage by the French Patrimoine offices). As you may guess, the inhabitants are not really annoyed by the amazing silence of the local Megapolises (Saint Aigulin, 2050 inhabitants ; Montguyon, 1654 inhabitants).

Technically, this sprawling village (3 000 hectares or 7410 acres) is not really overcrowded. There are only 8.5 inhabitants per sq. km (population according to the last census : 268 inhabitants). Not to mention the word of endangered species, indigenous represent some kind of a minority when comparing with cows (about 47 per sq. km.)

Just come and see the woods, the magnificent views and the sweetness of the largest little village. If you like it green, don't miss it : enjoy the smells and the noises of a preserved nature.

Life there follows strange paths. Excluding "traditional" seasons, an exhaustive description of the local pace makes it impossible not to mention at least three additional seasons : the elections, the opening of the shooting season and of course the fair. It is not necessary to tell a word of the two first as it seems that the fuss they provoke does not constitute a distinctive sign of the genetouzian way of life.
